When Professor Alden Clark, who teaches the graduate course "The Psychology of the Criminal Mind," spurns the advances of Claire Dunning, the brightest student in the university's "Vanguard program," she vows revenge. Using her classmates, Grady and Matthew, she plans what she believes to be the perfect crime -- the murder of Clark, author of the book, The Perfect Murder. The following Friday, Claire and Grady carry out the plan, which leaves Clark's pregnant wife, Deborah, to bear and raise their son alone with no idea if her husband is alive or dead.

A year later, Dr. Jarod "Gardner" becomes a criminology professor at the University of Hanover in Connecticut in order to solve Claire Dunning's "perfect murder" of Professor Clark. With the help of the guilt-ridden student who helped her plan the murder but did not participate in it, Jarod dupes Grady into confessing the whole scheme in front of a video camera, implicating Claire along with himself.

To her horror, Miss Parker learns that her father has changed his will and has been taking vitamins and Viagra, because he is engaged to The Centre employee who tried to kill him a year ago -- Brigitte.
